Opened in 1982, Epcot is a fascinating showcase of technological achievement. The 40-acre World Showcase Lagoon separates the two parts of Epcot. Future World, a showcase of new technologies and an educational introduction to the sciences, is on the north side. On the south side is World Showcase, a parade of attractions representing the cultures and lifestyles of various countries throughout the world. The architecture to be seen at World Showcase is often based on actual buildings, while the landscaping uses native or, at least, look alike plants. Whenever possible, the Cast Members and entertainers themselves here have been recruited from the countries on display and are themselves a great source of information about the nations they represent.
